I felt they relieved on doctors they were not familiar with and with the case at hand. It seemed to me they tortured their daughter in loves sense, but at the same time she had a great talent which grew as a pianist, great in her time era which helped save her body, mind and soul.

Reading this book shows how someone with special talents can get through almost any horrors to come out a winner. Kind of an under dog whom wins against all odds in the end.

When psychoses can achieve greatness . It is interessting to see the maniplition of a child Overbearing parents can shape a child's destiny.
I was surprised to find that although this is called a work of fiction, the main character is a real person whose compositions can be purchased. Her story is true and quite interesting.
I found this book compelling from beginning to end, especially when I discovered the story was based on fact!
Looking forward to reading more of Michele Halberstadt.
The author gives us great insight into the loss of sight. So much was done in such a short book--the feelings , a story, and the gift of music, makes us aware of how much we take for granted.The Pianist In The Dark was a great read.I really enjoy buying,owning and sharing good/used books from .
Not very engaging. Luckily it was a short book. It is not my taste for sure. The book did not meet my satisfactions for sure.
This is an interesting story, a sidebar to society's acceptance of women as a valuable person, not chattel. Most unusual for Mozart's time. Learned a lot about the history of that period. Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and classical music.
I am ambivalent about this one and waver between seeing Maria as unbalanced, then again, maybe realistic....perhaps a bizarre coming of age story. Knowing what we do today regarding alternative medicine, I feel sad for Dr. Mesmer. I would have liked to have seen the parents' role in her condition developed more.
